[N8VEM: 19896] Troubleshooting UNA boot rom on Mark IV

Hi Guys,

I'm programed the UNA boot rom into the 512KB flash chip, but when I power
up the board, I get only 4 flashes of the yellow led. I'm told there should
be 10. Before this, I had ran the test rom image and all tests passed until
it got to the serial tests. The board displayed the ASCII $7F character
over and over. I never saw any regular ASCII text. Any ideas? Thanks in
advance.

Hi John,

At first I used 115200 baud 8n1 rts/cts, then I tried 9600 baud 8n1 rts/cts. Do I need 8n2. Yes, I probably need to reread the instructions. Quite honestly I did this from memory. Maybe I need to check MY memory. :) I’m using a crystal frequency of 18.432MHZ for both the test and UNA. Maybe I need a different Oscillator for testing?

Are you booting at 9600 bps to start? Are you waiting long enough while UNA determines the crystal frequency? 10 seconds, minimum. This happens only on the first cold boot, or a cold startup requested from Setup.

You should get the test ROM working first. However, the baud rate will depend on your crystal. See the instructions.

If the test ROM does not pass all tests, then UNA is unlikely to come up.
