[N8VEM: 17925] CVDU success - sort of

I finished building the CVDU today and it worksŠI think. I can¹t seem to
find a monitor that will sync to the signal properly. I found a MAG
Innovations monitor from the early 1990¹s that partially syncs, so I see
that there are colors on the screen and the printing moves as the SBC188
posts. But that¹s it.

How is everyone getting this to work with modern monitors? I assume a sync
converter, but does anyone have a favorite?

Thanks!

Ok, thanks. In my shop where the 188 is, I don¹t have room for a TV. I might
try one of the Arcade video converters, It takes CGA/EGA/YUV inputs and
outputs VGA for monitors. $27.

That is the the correct model number. The CVDU output is EGA timing. EGA
monitors are getting pretty scarce.
This TV has so many connectors on the back, and syncs to HDTV, VGA, EGA,
NTSC. That is a very wide range of frequencies for any multi-sync monitor.

I have not had great luck with the really cheap converters. Do a quick
google search and find one that has had some success converting the
commodore 128 RGBi output.

If that's the case, you could try my C128 video DAC, along with a GBS-8220
scan converter.

See Richard42' posts about the design, which he created, and I am now
selling:

I, too, have a CVDU 1.0 board, and I was just about to upgrade it to the
recent 2.0 board. But, I haven't tried the CGA output, yet.

I have not had great luck with the really cheap converters. Do a quick
google search and find one that has had some success converting the
commodore 128 RGBi output.

Ok, thanks. In my shop where the 188 is, I don’t have room for a TV. I
might try one of the Arcade video converters, It takes CGA/EGA/YUV inputs
and outputs VGA for monitors.

It works best with a newish LCD/Plasma TV that includes both a VGA port
and a RCA composite input. John has had some luck with some Vizio LCD
wide screen tvs. (Vizio VA19L HDTV10T mfg. in 2009 I think . . . . )

All —
I finished building the CVDU today and it works
I think.
I can’t seem to find a monitor that will sync to the signal properly. I
found a MAG Innovations monitor from the early 1990’s that partially syncs,
so I see that there are colors on the screen and the printing moves as the
SBC188 posts. But that’s it.
How is everyone getting this to work with modern
monitors? I assume a sync converter, but does anyone have a favorite?
Thanks!
