[N8VEM: 18388] FPGA (new + vintage) running CUBIX 6809

I have added the zip files to the N8VEM site under James Moxham's FPGA
folders.

http://n8vem-sbc.pbworks.com/w/browse/#view=ViewFolder&param=CUBIX%20FPGA

These files will allow you to run CUBIX on one of James' boards using
Grant's FPGA code for the Altera Cyclone 2.

I started this as a new thread because the original thread has gotten very
long.

Hi AG5AT!

I just compiled your Cubix FPGA code for Grant’s Multicomp and the AG5AT DISK 6809 ROM MONITOR READY MESSAGE appears and the `>’ prompt appears just fine. I wrote the fpgacubix.img file to a 2GB SD Card and tried to boot it, but after I entered `b’ nothing happened. No disk. Have I possibly missed something?

Oh yeah, the “Booting SD card” appeared after I entered `b’, and then that was it. I checked the fpgacubix.img file and I could see the filenames in the directory structure. I used HDD from HDDGURU.com and RAWRITE.EXE to write the image to the 2GB SD Card, but still nothing. Do I need to start from scratch and build the disk image from scratch?

You shouldnt. Unfortunately, my office is in pieces and all the computers etc are put up for a week or two. You can load the .s19 file down to get cubix into memory

Aug,

I tried to 'drop in' the VGA/PS2 uart instead of the serial uart code. But
somehow it did not work. I haven't looked at it too much yet (so pls don't
spend time on my problem!), but any reason you know of why this would be a
problem?

Regards,

Oscar.

Hi Oscar!

Just drop in the RGB code straight from Grant’s Web site as IO1. The default is 80x25. It should work fine. I’m using the UART version since I will be working with this on the road also. I get a display on the VGA or the Serial version, but the * prompt never appears so I can’t enter commands to Cubix.

Ah, that's good to know, thanks. I'll check what I did wrong then...

Hi AG5AT!
What is the execution address of the CUBIX.S19 file. I tried "gc700" and it hung.

Hi Aug!
I finally got the rom monitor to boot CUBIX 1.3, but the "*" prompt never appears. My problem was I was addressing an 8KB rom instead of a 2KB rom. I figured CUBIX was in rom. I didn't realize that it was being loaded from the SD Card.
So now that I'm loading Cubix, what is keeping it from displaying the * prompt?
