Hi there,

Just to inform you builders if the existence of a new 55ns dip32 part,
completely compatible the ram used in N8.
I'm looking for the parts now ;)

Alliance AS6C4008
I've just ordered them... +- 8 euro per piece at Mouser.

According to the application notes of Zilog 60ns should suffice for
zero-wait states. So this is a fun part.

What about HCT parts ? why are they not used in N8 design , most of them
have lower access time ?

Sincerely,

Frank

Hi! Thanks! You can use 74HCT parts in the N8 without issue.

They are generally speaking lower power and faster parts and fully
compatible with 74LS.

Thanks and have a nice day!

Indeed,

for normal operations it should work thought, i will try. Because of
CMOS/TTL levels. It's a bit different.
It's because i have most of the parts here... in HCT like all the registers.
Found the other parts on ebay (all in hongkong so it will take a while)
But i've got time.

Most of the sellers ask high prices, but hongkong is really cheap, i buy a
lot over there at this moment.

It would be a nice way to invest my old parts in one new computer though ;)

Yep it has to do with gate access time...but all chips are not compatible
with eachother.. hct are easier to find. And most of them I already had :-)

BTW some 74HCT ICs are actually slower than 74LS.

So, 60nns (or 55ns in your case) is fast enough for 33MHz operation on the
N8-2313?
