[N8VEM: 17450] Xi Progress and sligtly OT question...

Hi All,

Just a word about my Xi 8088 progress. Backplane all done except for the
ISA sockets which of course Mouser sold out of the day before I ordered
them. Ten weeks lead time, so I went to Digi-Key where I could get them for
twice as much but they will arrive on Tuesday. The CPU card is all done
except for chip acquisition. I have most on order through Jameco or Mouser,
but a few I have to source through E-pay and specialty sellers. I am
looking for an 80C88. I have the CMOS clock generator (expensive from
e-pay). I am anxious to get this powered up and running, but have purposly
taken my time so as not to make errors. Check three times before soldering,
then check solder joint three times... once before de-fluxing, twice after.

Now for a completely OT question. Does anyone know of any group dedicated
to the Multibus computer systems? Then, has anyone ever heard of the Intel
SBC 310 High Speed Mathematics Unit, and know where one can find one?

Thank you much in advance!

Best,

Joe

here is some information about the iSBCs. Maybe the links to googlebooks
on this page give some deeper information.

Regarding the processor sources:
- Avnet Express has several CP80C88-2Z chips in stock. They are quite
pricey ($22.32 + $8.00 shipping), but they are brand new :-)
- Unicorn Electronics has older 80C88-2 chips. I think they are $15 or so.
- Scout eBay for 80C88 or even better for a NEC V20 or V20HL chip. The V20
is mostly 80C88 compatible, implemented using low power CMOS technology,
supports 80186 instructions (which allows running real mode applications
that use 80286 instructions).
- You can always use much easier to get (on eBay at least) 8088-2 chip. And
if you lucky you might find 8088-1 (10 MHz), or even 8088-12 (12 MHz)
chips. Intel never made 10 MHz or faster versions of 8088. Other companies
(AMD, Fujitsu, and Siemens) made them.
