All,
See attached for some photos of John's 12-slot backplane PCB in the
TI/Siemens 6508 chassis. It looks good!
At this point for a power supply I am looking at the Mean Well RD-65A which
is 5V 8A and 12V 4A. Based on a conversation with John via email, a
conservative estimate might be 5V 0.5A for each ECB card (some will be
more, some will be less). One of the attached photos shows floppy drives
at 5V 0.5A, so the RD-65A should be enough to drive the 5V system and any
12V things I might want to add later.
I am also considering drilling out the pop-rivets that hold the chassis
together and replacing them with bolts+nuts. This would allow me to take
the chassis apart and take the "front" panel to a local hobbyist friend who
has a waterjet machine and have the cut-outs for 2-3 floppy drives and the
bus monitor display(s) cut out nicely (I am a super clumsy person with a
dremel.) At the same time I might have a nice anodized aluminum panel made
to attach to the regular painted chassis and spice things up a little.
