I saw a picture of your SD card on the Wiki can you tell me the model
number of that card or where you got it? The one I have from Digi-Key (FCI)
doesn¹t line-up properly and now that I have the N8 working, I wanted to get
this last piece working. Thanks!

Rich,

The FCI card has an odd pin which brings out the CD -- card detect
switch contacts.

Normally, an SD socket has pins: 9 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 ++ The ++ being WP
and CD (Write Protect & Card Detect switches)

However, the FCI card puts CD between pins 2 & 3, and shifts pin 3 to
the right. This is the misalignment you are referring to.

Pins 3 and 6 are GND, so they are very important to have correctly soldered.

Thanks John. I¹ve looked at the Word doc originally posted that discussed
this, and the various part numbers makes it difficult to pick the right
one. Now that I got my board working, I can finish the SD card part and
start playing with it.

So what do you do with the CD pin? Do you lift it up and jumper it to the
right pad or ignore it?

Rich,

I know the Juha card and the N8 do not connect either WP or CD, so you
can clip the pins off, or just bend them out of the way.

With the #3 pad on the N8 board in the correct position, but the pin on
the FCI socket displaced to the right, you need to make a solder bridge
to the pad. The extra pads on the board to the right of pad #8 are
no-connects.

Remember the numbering of the SD card pads: 9 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 ++

The Dual SD card directories on the Wiki have a great deal of
information on SD card sockets. I did a lot of research before designing
the board socket layout for the Dual SD, which is used on the 6x0x
ATX/VME board.

BTW: the FCI socket is, IMHO, one of the best. (And they all are devils
to surface mount!!)

John -- thanks. I did bend the CD pin up and bent 3 a little closer to the pad. Should be good. The only negative to the FCI socket (at least the one I have) is that there are no solder anchors on the sides. I guess I'll solder-blob them. A project for tomorrow!

Thanks again.
